the words in this post are quotes from the 1978 Bruce Springsteen song 'The promised land', whereas the post title is the name of a song he also wrote at the time, but that was only released in 2010, in a CD set that featured the (Nevada) photos posted here, pictures taken circa 1977 on a road trip between Utah and Nevada with photographer Eric Meola [A 1999 version of the song 'The promise' was also released on the 1999 CD entitled 18 Tracks]
