On The Boardwalk

"Down on the boardwalk they're gettin ready for a fight..."
“Did you hear the cops finally busted Madame Marie,
for tellin' fortunes better than they do?
For me this boardwalk life's through, baby,
you ought to quit this scene too…”

“Don’t trust men who walk with canes”

"On the boardwalk, way past dark..."

  2. The caption for the picture at the top is a quote from the 1973 Bruce Springsteen song ‘4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)’. It makes reference to real life psychic reader, Madam Marie, the longest running tenant on the Asbury Park boardwalk. She told fortunes, from a place nicknamed The Temple of Knowledge, from 1932 to 2008, when she died aged 93. Her real name was Marie Costello and she told Bruce Springsteen that he would be a huge success. He later joked that she told all musicians the same thing! According to the police, she was never arrested, contrary to the line in his 1973 song.

The caption “Don’t trust men who walk with canes” is a quote from the 1973 Bruce Springsteen song ‘Does this bus stop at 82nd street?’
